A Wesleyan Methodist chapel and Sunday School are indicated at Dowsdale Bank on the 1904 OS County Series Map. The chapel and a later Sunday School of 1938 survive and the chapel was in use as a chapel until 2009. It replaces the chapel built in 1841 in Dowsdale which is recorded in documentary sources. In 2010 it was disused. It is built of red brick with stone dressings and has a gabled roof with a slate covering, ornamental ridge copings and overhanging eaves with wooden eaves boards resting on wooden brackets. The front elevation has a gabled porch with the same details as the main gable and a pointed chamfered doorway with original paired doors and decorative iron hinges. In the main gable above the porch is a roundel containing leaded stained glass. The side elevations have three pairs of pointed windows with ashlar cills and keystones. There are several foundation stones inscribed with a date of 1897. Alongside is a Sunday School constructed of red brick with a raised gable with stone copings, a gabled porch containing a flat-headed doorway, and a date stone of 1938. The side elevation has three bays of three-light flat-headed windows with ashlar cills and lintels.{1}{2}{3}{4}{5}
