Full Description

PRN 56354 This small red brick water mill served as a corn mill in the later 19th century and was converted to house a water-powered electricity generator during the early 20th century. The wooden waterwheel remains along with some of the generator equipment. The mill and the later generator belonged to Thorganby Hall and its associated farm. The mill stream may also have been used a sheep dip. {1} A small watered power corn mill is recorded in the late nineteenth century. In the first half of the twentieth century the waterwheel was used to power an electricity generator for the Hall and farmyard. A red brick substructure which includes the wheel pit, bypass channel, brick-lined fore bay and lock chamber are still in existence [2005]. The breast-shot waterwheel is in-situ. {2}
