Full Description

PRN 25626 An archaeological watching brief carried out in July 2009 identified two large pits containing pottery of mid/late 15th to early/mid 16th century date. The pottery, mostly Bourne Ware, was not worn and could have been the work of a single potter, raising the possibility that the material derives from a nearby kiln or potter's shop - more likely the latter since wasters were absent from the assemblage. A single fragment of mid 15th to 16th century pottery provided tentative dating for a ditch, which would appear to have extended to the line of Broadgate. While not perpendicular with the street, the feature aligns with property boundaries or drains shown on an 1843 tithe map, extending eastwards to meet a southwest to northeast aligned ditch (see PRN 25627; post medieval remains at 107 Broadgate). {1}{2}
