Full Description
This is a building identified as of historical interest by the South Holland District Council Local List. Although this building has limited architectual and historic value, it does with other buildings in the vicinity enhance the character of the area in which it stands. {1}
The forge was a single storey red brick structure with a pitched gabled roof of corrugated asbestos sheets. It had a modern flat roofed extension to the rear and a wooden lean-to garage extension to the east. A straight join at the north end of the east elevation suggests that the north wall may have been a survival from an earlier structure. A low coal bunker, with an internal opening to the smithy, projected from the south elevation. {2}{3}
The building was demolished in 2019-2020 and the site is now occupied by a residential property. The two storey brick dwelling immediately to the west, now two semi-detached houses known as 'The Forge' and 'Forge Cottage' are presumably historically associated with the forge itself. {4}
