Full Description

Lodge cottage built in the early 19th century. It was constructed from yellow brick with ashlar surrounds, and features a pyramidal slate roof with overhanging eaves and central brick stack. It has a central pointed door opening flanked by single 2 light windows with Y tracery. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate entry in the National Heritage List for England. {1}{2} The building is thought to have been as an entrance lodge to the nearby Scotter Wood Farmhouse (see MLI116841). The building is depicted on the 2nd edition 25" Ordnance Survey County Series map as a roughly square-shaped structure, with the entrance track to the farmhouse passing the building and continuing to the south-west, through Scotter Wood. {3} A drawing of the building featured in a local calendar produced in 1979, showing the building in its original layout. Photographs taken in 1989, 1990 and 1991 show the building falling into disrepair. The structure continued to deteriorate and was demolished at some point in the 1990s, with a replacement dwelling being built on the same site. This replacement structure was built in the same style as the former lodge, but on a much larger footprint. The former structure was subsequently de-listed in 2012. {4}{5}
