A sequence of developments and refurbishments of the building from its construction in 1724 were identified and recorded. The building occupies a position on the western side of the High Street, to the south of the junction with Dunham Road. It was constructed as a free standing structure, set slightly back from the pavement edge. It is of two storeys, in an L-shaped plan form, with a pitched pantile roof and two brick gable roof stacks. The building is constructed of brick, predominantly laid in Flemish bond, and has a projecting chamfered stone plinth. Many of the original door openings within the building have been blocked and relocated.
