Description
SK 87 SW NEWTON-ON-TRENT HIGH STREET (west side) 6/46 No.30 16-12-64 II House. Late C17 and early C18 with extensive C19 alterations. Red brick in Flemish bond with ashlar quoins and dressings and pantile roof having 2 brick gable stacks. 2 storey irregular 3 bay front with plinth, first floor ashlar band and dentillated brick eaves course, at either end of which are single molded stones surviving from an early C18 ashlar eaves course. The off centre 6 panelled door has a flush ashlar surround and lintel with raised keystone, and is flanked by single windows. To first floor are 2 further windows. All windows are glazing bar sashes. Between the first floor windows is an ashlar datestone dated 1724 with the initials GF. Since this stone is so obviously placed asymetrically in the facade it seems unwise to place too much reliance on it. The right hand room has a facetted beam with pyramidal stops of C17 character. Listing NGR: SK8324974189
