Full Description

A war memorial built in about 1923 from polished white marble and bronze. It is made up of two rectangular marble stones which form the base. The upper stone is inscribed with the names of those who fell in the Second World War. Above is a taller rectangular block with a pyramidal top inscribed with the names of those who died in the Great War. Above that is a simple marble cross embellished with a bronze sword. Unveiled in 1922, the memorial is a Sicilian marble cross, eighteen feet (five and a half metres) in height with a crusader's sword in bronze on the face of the cross. The lower of the bases is made of hard York stone and stands on a concrete base surmounted by two steps with the inscriptions in black lettering on the plinth and top step. The memorial is dedicated to those who died in the First World War and the Second World War. {2}
