Full Description
PRN 38649
This building is probably of medieval origin. It was a Guild Hall in the 15th century. It is jettied and timber framed and has the remains of an 18th century shop front facing the High Street. There is a small glazed lantern and a weather vane on the roof. The interior includes a traceried window. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
This house is part of one large and probably important 15th century timber framed building (with no. 7 - PRN 37861) which may have been a guildhall. It is jettied on the north and south sides, although the south side has been underbuilt. A stone front was added on the east in the 18th century and later shop fronts have replaced much of the north wall. The one at no. 6 dates from 1848. Much of the medieval timber structure remains inside along with the crown post roof. The cellar contains some medieval stonework. On the roof is a large glazed lantern, with seats inside, that dates to around 1830. {2}
