Austin House was built c. 1800 and is a good example of Regency architecture. The contemporary interior fittings include a staircase, fitted cupboards, moulded plasterwork and panelled doors. {1}
This three storey house is thought to date to the mid 18th century [however, this is probably incorrect - see above]. It is constructed of coursed rubble. It has no windows to the street front except a large bowed oriel window from the first floor to the roof. The garden front has two full height bow windows and a projecting porch approached by stone steps with wrought iron railings. The garden front of this house is described as 'the prettiest in Stamford', in contrast to its 'bleak' street front. It has good Regency interiors. {3}
