Full Description

PRN 38258 This low two storey house is built of coursed rubble with an old slate roof. One gable is probably part of an earlier house and has various bits of 12th to 13th century masonry including a small window incorporated into it. The other, smaller gable is probably 17th century. The door is 19th century in an 18th century surround. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This house probably retains much of a medieval open hall with a single cross wing. The walls have been periodically rebuilt and the north wall has a reset 12th century window and another probable medieval window. The former open hall has an inserted floor with 16th century beams. The interior fittings include a 16th century door, a late 17th century fireplace and an early 18th century staircase. The former cross wing is panelled in 19th century Gothic style woodwork said to have been removed from the church. The roof over the hall is probably 17th century. {2} This is a medieval house that is difficult to date as it has been much adapted and contains fragments of other buildings. The fragments are blocked windows and other stones of 12th and 13th century date which have been reset, however this may be their original site. The house as it currently stands is probably 14th or maybe 15th century. {4}
