This house was built by Richard Newcombe for his own use in 1842. It stands on the site of an earlier house which was built within a stone quarry which gave the house its name. The design of the main elevation is in a classical style but with eclectic use of motifs resulting in a florid appearance typical of mid-Victorian architecture. The interior is profusely decorated in a similar style. {2}
