Description
1. 1671 SCOTGATE (North Side) Rock House TF 0207 3/352 II GV 2. Built 1842 for Richard Newcombe. 2-storey mansion in stone. Welsh slate roof with stone stacks. Rusticated ground floor has central 4-panel door with rectangular fanlight, flanked by plain pilasters. This is beneath round-headed window with massive stone balcony on brackets. Corinthian pilasters in antis. 2 full-height Corinthian pilasters support frieze, cornice and central parapet with 3 round-headed windows and lions' masks, 2 2-storey pedimented bay windows. 2 narrow lights with glazing bars above balustrade in centre. Wood and glazed rectangular bays on ground floor, with anthemion scroll frieze. Rock House, Nos 5l and 52 form a group. Also forms a group with Nos 3l to 4l (consec) and the Clock House, Casterton Road. Listing NGR: TF0250407291
