Full Description

PRN 37637 This mid 19th century terrace consists of 10 substantial small houses treated as a single composition. The name 'Rock Terrace' appears at the north end in contemporary lettering, however the houses are now numbered as part of Scotgate. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} This terrace was built in 1841 by Richard Newcombe. The 10 houses are each two storey except for the central pair which are three storey. The central pair and the terminal houses also break forward from the line, giving emphasis to the centre which also has a stone balcony over the entrances and the initials 'RN' in the decoration. The lower windows of all the houses have original cast-iron balconies. There are neo-Classical styled original gate piers in the front gardens but the railings have been removed. The internal decoration is sparse compared with the exterior. {2}
