PRN 37635 This two storey public house dates from the late 18th century [this should probably be late 19th century - see below]. It is constructed of red terracotta, probably from Blashfield's Works, with stone dressings. The front is extensively decorated, including a crest with a castle, lions and an inscription reading 'P & R Phipps, Brewers'. The terracotta has 'a detail of robust gaiety' and is from Blashfield's works. J. M. Blashfield may have designed it. {2} This building is decorated with Blashfield terracotta. Blashfield's terracotta works in Stamford were opened in 1859. {3}
