Description

1. 1671 SCOTGATE (South Side) No 5 (The scotgate Public House) TF 0207 1/521 II GV 2. Late C18, Terracotta, probably from Blashfield's Works. 2 storeys in red terracotta with blue plinth with stone capping. Stone dressings and vermiculated rusticated quoins. Moulded modillion cornice with studs and spandrels between. Parapet with panels at quoins supporting carved urns, Name 'P & R Phipps, Brewers' below crest of castle with lion supporters and motto. Moulded string above 1st floor windows, 3 bays of double round-headed carved arches divided by carved colonnettes. Moulded band continues cills on tabs. Rusticated surrounds, Similar fenestration on ground floor, but the heads are vermiculated rustication with keystone and splayed cill. Doorway in vermiculated rustication with chamfered reveal. Door of 8 fielded panels with blocked fanlight. Head of Hermes on keystone. Scraper inset in plinth. Carriage door to right of 8 panels, vermiculated rusticated arch with monogram on keystone. Brick and rendered side. Nos 4 and 5 form a group. Listing NGR: TF0274207149
