Full Description
This range of three buildings dates to the early 18th century, and is similar to no.14. It is constructed of ashlar stone with a slate roof, and has bolection moulded window surrounds and panels. The ground floor has modern shop fronts. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
This range of houses has an ashlar front with coursed rubble rear walls and timber framed stair turrets. They were built around 1700, and generally conform to the design of no.14. The dormer windows are 19th century. Traces of a probable earlier shop front were seen prior to the installation of modern shop fronts, suggesting that these buildings were originally designed as shops. No.17 has a triple window with pediment which is a replacement for an earlier bow window shown in a picture dating to 1804. Between the square stair turrets behind nos.16 and 17 is a timber framed gallery with a jettied upper storey which was added in the 18th century. The stair turret to no.15 was demolished in the 1970s, and only no.16 retains its original stair. At the rear are various ranges of 18th and early 19th century date. {2}{3}
