Full Description

Grade II listed school and attached headmaster's house, dating from 1905 by Leonard Stokes. It is buff brick with stone dressings and slate roofs with eight prominent coped stacks on the front parapet. It is in Vernacular Jacobean Revival style. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} During the First World War the school was requisitioned by the military and became the Fourth Northern General Hospital run by the Royal Army Medical Corps. It held 41 officer beds and 1126 other ranks beds and over 445,000 men were treated there during the Great War. {2}
