Full Description

Grade II listed war memorial, dating from 1922. It is by Montague Hall and is ashlar in Gothic Revival style. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {1} Lincoln war memorial is situated in St Benedict's Square before St Benedict's Church. It was originally dedicated in 1922 in memory of all those who died in the First World War. The names of the Second World War dead were later added and the memorial was unveiled again in 2005 after restoration work. The memorial itself is carved from Ancaster stone and decorated in the Gothic style. It rises from a platform and series of steps to a height of about 36ft (11m). Four buttresses of 14ft (4m) project from an octagonal base and on each face a Portland stone panel built into the masonry carries the names of the fallen. {2}
