Full Description

PRN 48210 Public dispensary built in 1866, designed by Bellamy and Hardy of Lincoln, converted into a cottage hospital in 1924. The dispensary was founded in 1789 by a group of men including Sir Joseph Banks. A datestone on the front of the building commemorates this. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} To commemorate those who fought in the First World War, it was decided that the existing Dispensary for medical aid to the poor would be transformed into a memorial hospital. The 1867 building was thus reopened in 1924 complete with an oak framed brass plaque. Standing on the corner of North Street and Linden Road, the memorial is also dedicated to those who died in the Second World War. Although the hospital closed in 1998 the building became a multi-purpose medical facility that opened in 2002. In 2013 the Horncastle Health Centre relocated to the building. {3}
