Full Description
A house dating from the late 16th century which was largely rebuilt in early 18th century and underwent further alterations in the early 19th and 20th centuries. It was constructed of red brick with stucco dressings and has a pantile roof with late C16 axial brick stack with bands. It is thought that John Smith, the founder of the State of Virginia, was born here in 1580. Unnamed farmstead, Willoughby with Sloothby. Partially extant 16th century farmstead. Loose courtyard with three sides of the courtyard formed by working agricultural buildings. The farmhouse is detached from the main working complex. There has been significant loss (greater than 50%) of traditional buildings. Located within or in association with a village. Large modern sheds are located to the side of the site. {2}
