Full Description

Memorial pump, dating from 1906. Constructed of limestone ashlar, and in the form of a square, low plinth with a smaller, higher square plinth on top, with a water spout on the south side. Above this is the main tall rectangular block, which carries the inscription. The pump was erected to the memory of Trooper Frederick Allen Freshney, who received serious wounds on the 15th December 1899 at the Battle of Colenso (South Africa), during the Boer War. Freshney never recovered from his wounds, and died in May 1906. The pump was paid for by friends of Tropper Freshney, and built by the Lincoln masons firm of Messrs A.J. Tuttell.
