Full Description

A parish church dating from the early 18th century which underwent alterations in 1792 and 1825. The church was constructed of red brick with ashlar dressings and has a slate roof with overhanging eaves. In the porch is the remains of a 13th century decorated Crucifixus. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2} The almanack for 1725 records preparations for the rebuilding of Langton church. It is always said to be of the 1720s and it is perhaps significant that its chalice is dated 1719. The roof was stripped of its lead in 1792 and it has been suggested that the lead was used to make bullets for the Napoleonic wars. The pitch of the roof was then increased to take a slated roof. {3} The church is on the site of an earlier church. During a site visit it was noted that some gravestones in the churchyard predate the existing church. {4}
