For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Neil Wright states that the Boston Corporation constructed the building at 34 Market Place in 1777. It was built as a dedicated theatre and was closed in 1806 when a larger one was built in Red Lion Street. The front of the building had three doors when used as a theatre for acces to the boxes, pit and gallery. When the theatre closed it was used as a granary and a riverside extension, or warehouse, was added to the rear after 1815. In the 1880s the building was turned into a shop by local seed frowing firm W.W. Johnson & Son. In 1999 the building, together with adjoining 32 & 33 Market Place, was converted into a public house. As of 2022 the name of the public house was The Folly. {2}
