Full Description

The Crown and Anchor public house was originally located at 10 London Street, it moved to this location in 1858. The cast-iron sign that was located at the original building was moved to the new pub. The sign or plaque was moved to its current location, next to the site of the former public house, after the building was demolished in 1968. It was constructed of cast-iron and set in a modern brick surround. It is a tall plaque with a semicircular head and has a raised crown beneath a swag of grapes sitting above an anchor flanked by the date 1803, with W.Holden Tavern inscribed beneath. The plaque was formerly fixed to the side wall of the Crown and Anchor Public House, which stood on this site until its demolition in 1968. It was cast at Howden's foundry in Witham Town, Boston. This plaque is listed. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}{2}
