Full Description

A memorial dating from about 1880. It was constructed of pink granite on a stone plinth and circular brick base. It is an obelisk with stepped plinth and is inscribed 'In memory of Rev. Thomas Matthews, 31 years pastor of Baptist Church, erected by his friends and fellow townsmen in token of their admiration of his eminent talents and exalted character. Born August 1798, died Jan 21st 1871.'
