Full Description

A house, now shop, dating from the late 18th century which underwent alterations in the 20th century. It was constructed of white painted brick, laid in English bond and has a slate roof with a reduced gable stack and one raised coped gable. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} 3 Church Street was the subject of historical research in 2012, when an assessment of its significance was produced. The building is of three storeys, built of white painted red brick, and is set within a terrace of similar age, though not of the same build period. Originally built as a house, the building was converted to be used as a public house by the mid 19th century, before further alterations were made to convert the building into a shop. The building has seen some alterations, primarily with the insertion of a shop front and windows in the mid 20th century, although many original and historic elements survive intact. {2} The building was used as a beer house from approximately 1863 until 1960. {3}
