Summary

Two cist burials, probably dating from the 10th to 12th century, were revealed during trial trenching. The walls of a building, pits and late 10th to mid 16th century finds were also uncovered.

Full Description

PRN 70630 Trial trenching at Chapel Lane in August 2008 revealed evidence of medieval activity in the vicinity. Two east to west orientated cist burials, probably dating from the 10th to 12th century, were uncovered but left in situ. The robbed walls of a building, possibly part of the north transept and nave of St Clement's Church, and pits were also revealed. Finds include a small pottery assemblage dating from the late 10th to mid 16th century and three fragments of ceramic building material. {1}{2}
