Full Description
PRN 47397
A park is recorded on the first edition c.1880 and c.1905 Ordnance Survey maps as Great Park, Gautby. {1}{2}
In 1856 William White described Gautby Park as well-wooded. It was owned by the Vyner family. {3}
The park was owned by the Vyner family who acquired an estate in Gautby probably in the early 18th century. The park was probably landscaped by the Vyners in the mid 18th century. Some elements of the park survive such as the kitchen garden, the ice house (possibly 18th century) (PRN 47835) and the remains of the ornamental lake. Gautby Hall originally stood above the lake and commanded a vista down its length. {4}
Almost all the parkland is now (2016) arable, although the lake remains at TF 1794 7204. {5}
