Full Description

PRN 14012 It is known from documentary sources that the first Wesleyan Methodist chapel in Boston was built around 1764 in Wormgate, possibly on the corner of Fountains Lane. It is said to have seated 170 people. It was subsequently replaced by a new chapel in Red Lion Street in 1808 (PRN 14013). In 1856 the building still existed, at which time it was divided into two dwellings. Today the south corner of the junction of Wormgate with Fountains Lane is unoccupied but archaeological excavation of the site revealed the former existence of a 17th century, or earlier, timber-framed post medieval building, which existed until the 1960s. The north corner of the junction of Wormgate with Fountains Lane is now occupied by a building which houses 2 shops which are listed.The listing dates them to the mid 18th century with alterations of the 19th and 20th centuries.{1}{2}{3}{4}
