Full Description
Site of the former Unitarian chapel at Chapel Row, Boston. It was built in 1804 by a Universalist Society, who later moved to the Unitarian chapel in Spain Lane in 1820, after selling the building to the Society of Friends in 1812. The building was used as a Friends Meeting House until 1836, standing empty for a few years before being sold to the Particular Baptists for £50 in 1851. The building was being used by the Reformed Methodists in 1856, and was subsequently used as a school and later as a garage or store. It is described in the Inventory of Nonconformist Chapels and Meeting houses in Eastern England as being of brick construction with a hipped roof covered by slates and pantiles. The front had 3 bays with round-headed windows and a door which formerly had a pedimented surround. An oval stone tablet over the entrance had the date of construction of 1804. A photograph of the building was included in the Inventory. The building is no longer extant, having been demolished in the 1970s during the construction of John Adams Way. {1}{2}{3}{4}
