Full Description
A meeting house and burial ground of the Society of Friends, at Sea Lane, Old Leake. A report was made by the Mumby Monthly Meeting in 1727 that a new meeting house had been built with a burial ground at Leake. The site of the burial ground is depicted on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, but the exact location of the meeting house is not known. {1}{2}
A site visit was conducted in April 2008, as part of a survey of nonconformist chapels. The visit revealed the site of the burial ground is now a ploughed field. Local information reports that some grave markers still exist around the edges of the field but it was not possible to confirm this during the visit due to the long undergrowth. One of the farm buildings to the immediate north was also identified as a possible candidate for the former meeting house, although the building is not is marked on historic OS mapping, and there are no documentary references to corroborate. {3}
