Full Description

PRN 65397 19th century public house constructed of coursed limestone rubble. It is considered to be a Significant unlisted building within the Conservation Area. {1} Large two storey, six bay stone building under a gabled tile roof. Two gable stacks and one lateral stack. First storey windows are leaded lights including Thorold coat of arms, second storey windows are 6 over 6 sash, possibly original. Historic OS maps show a range of outbuildings, possibly stables, associated with the public house, forming an courtyard opening to the corner of the street. White's 1856 Trade Directory names John Theaker as 'victualler' at the Thorold Arms, and the 1872 Directory names William Simpson. Named for the Thorold family, residents of the manor house in the 19th century. {2}{3}{4}{5}
