Nearly 100 sherds of early Saxon potttery, including a single decorated sherd, were found in a garden on School Lane (the exact location is of this find is not known). {1}
Another approx. 69 sherds of Saxon pottery were found on the other side of the road at Butt Lees during fieldwalking. The sherds were concentrated in an area not more than 50m from the road along the south edge of the field. Limestone rubble, some showing burn marks, and much animal bone was also seen.
