Full Description

The Church of St Mary is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The ownership of this church, and any profits from it and its land, was complex with at least three people (the Bishop of Durham, Odo the Arblaster and Ulviet, a thegn of the king) claiming a share of it. {1} The location of this church is not known. {2} Human remains have been found at several locations around the village (see PRN 60041) and it is suggested that these may be associated with this church. {3}
