Full Description

A meeting house and burial ground of the Society of Friends, at Wainfleet St Mary. In 1718, a John Baldock bequeathed a building for the Friends to use as a meeting house. The building was located on the south side of Haven Bank, but was closed in 1775, when a new meeting house was constructed in the centre of Wainfleet All Saints (see MLI125746). The site continued in use as a burial ground until 1949, when it was sold, although it still exists within a small hedged enclosure. The burial ground is depicted on the 1st edition 6" Ordnance Survey County Series map, but the former meeting house is not marked, suggesting it had already been demolished by the time of the survey. {1}{2}{3}
