Full Description

PRN 46912 [This record includes record number 42928 that has been deleted.] Horse engine, now storeroom. c.1800. Red brick. Octagonal slate roof with wrought iron finial and wooden eaves. Octagonal plan. Doorway to west with plank door.{1} The village pinfold is a brick-built polygonal structure with a polygonal slate roof; at the junction of Low Road and Vicarage Lane and on the south bank of the Steeping River. {2} The building is on the 1905 Ordnance Survey map as an isolated structure on the north side of Low Road. It is too far away from any farm buildings to be a horse gin and is much more likely to be a pinfold that has been roofed and used as a store.{3} The description of this listed building, as referenced in source 1 above, has been altered (2012) and it is now described as a pinfold of about 1800 with a roof that appears to be a later addition. For the full description of this listed building please refer to the National Heritage List for England. {5}
