PRN 64718 In front of the Church of St Denys, in the Market Place is Sleaford war memorial. It has six steps to a hexagonal stone base with niches with cusped heads containing the names of the dead. The base supports 3 statues of warrior kings and a slender shaft terminating in a Rood. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1} Designed by Mr Wilfrid Bond of Grantham, Sleaford memorial stands at twenty-eight feet (eight and a half metres) high monument made out of Clipsham stone. The design is of a wayside cross with allegorical figures standing almost two and a half feet (one metre) tall in canopied niches representing the three fighting forces on land, sea and air. The memorial is situated in the Market Place on East Gate and was unveiled in 1922. {3}
