Summary

Undated bank and ditch to the west of the Car Dyke, Helpringham

Type and Period (2)

Protected Status/Designation

  • None recorded

Full Description

PRN 64553 Traces of a slight bank are visible as a hump in the road surface and traces of a broad, partially infilled ditch can be seen on the road surface and in the fields to either side. At about 80cm down in pipe trench, a heavy clay layer was observed which may be the upcast from the digging of an earlier north-south ditch. It is suggested that this feature may represent an earlier, abandoned route of the Car Dyke. {1}{2}
