Full Description
PRN 64469
11th century parish church, with 13th, 14th and 17th century additions or alterations, restored 1896-7 by Hodgson Fowler. For the full description and the legal address of this listed building please refer to the appropriate List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest. {1}
A full architectural description of the church, including its interior fittings and memorials, is also given by Pevsner. {2}
The west tower of this church is an atypical example of the late 11th/early 12th century 'Lincolnshire Tower' type, and is extensively discussed. Included within the tower are two pieces of re-used sculpture, a later 10th or early 11th century figure sculpture (probably the Virgin Mary) from a rood and a later medieval sheila-na-gig figure. {3}{4}{9}{10}
The incumbents of the church from medieval times to the 19th century have also been discussed (along with its architecture, fittings and memorials). {7}{8}
