Full Description

A large late Iron Age/Romano-British artefact scatter which may represent a building or farmstead was seen during fieldwalking in Morton for the Fenland Project. The artefact scatter included pottery, fired clay, quern, animal bone, burnt stone, tile, rubble and slag. A distinct soilmark was visible along with traces of earthwork. {1} Probable Romano-British enclosures extending from the area covered by field walking are likely associated with the farm building. They are visible in aerial photographs as cropmarks, located between the Car Dyke and the Scotten Dyke. {2}
