Full Description

PRN 70529 This church is first mentioned in documentary sources in 1147-8, and was ordered to be pulled down in 1535. {1}{4} The dedication of this church is probably to St Bavo, the Flemish patron saint of Ghent. It appears to have been a very minor church, situated in a back alley. This may indicate that is was a late foundation, built after the area was already built up. In 1362 the Guild of St Bavo was founded in the church. By 1428, the associated parish had less that 10 inhabitants. {2} The location of this church was established by Johnson in 1992, and this location is still considered correct. {3}
