Full Description

PRN 70528 Little is known about this church. It was located at the eastern end of the Eastgate market and probably situated within the market itself. The associated parish had less than 10 inhabitants by 1428 and it may have been demoted to chapel status after this, becoming a chapel of ease attached to St Peter Eastgate, although this is not certain. The church was evidently in a poor state of repair by the Reformation and the tiles were sold in 1535 prior to its demolition. The church did have a churchyard, which apparently covered a large area, but this does not appear to have remained in use after the destruction of the church. {1}{5} This church is first mentioned in documentary sources in 1163. {4} The roof tiles were sold to Mr Peture in 1535. {6}
