Full Description

PRN 70521 Trial excavations revealed various indications of prehistoric activity and the prehistoric landscape at this site. Worked flints ranging in date from possible Mesolithic through to Bronze Age were found in residual contexts across most of the site. However, a few were found in situ in two ditches. A pit was also found containing mid to late Neolithic pottery. This may represent a ceremonial or ritual feature. A possible palaeochannel, with small quantities of Bronze Age pottery in its upper fill, was also uncovered as were possible prehistoric ground surfaces. Altogether, these features suggest that the site was visited frequently (possibly seasonally) by people who established temporary camps in the area rather than being permanently settled. {1}{2}
