Full Description

PRN 13869 Archaeological evaluation uncovered a range of post-medieval features and deposits dating to the seventeenth century and later. These included rubbish pits, levelling deposits and a buried, cobbled yard surface. This marks the gradual return to prosperity of Boston after the boom period of medieval commerce and decline in the early post medieval period. The earliest artefacts date from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries with the majority of material representing eighteenth century deposits. The presence of fairly high status artefacts suggests that the occupants of the development site were moderately wealthy in the eighteenth century. Faunal remains represent typical butchery waste from a post medieval riverside, including waterfowl and shellfish.{1}{2}
