Obelisk tombstone erected c. 1835 in memory of N Richard Wharton Middleton, who had an argument with the rector and decided to be buried in his own grounds. His wife Frances, who died in 1873, is also commemorated on the stone. The memorial consists of a 4m tall obelisk which sits on a polished red square base on three ashlar steps.
