PRN 64067
Parish church constructed in the 13th century, with additions and alterations in the 14th, 15th and 16th century. The aisle was demolished in 1809 and rstored in 1898. Constructed in limestone ashlar and coursed limestone rubble, with lead, Colleyweston and slate roofs. The 13th century west tower is of two stages, with chamfered plinth, stepped angle buttresses. In the south wall of the chancel is a panel of miscellaneous scultpures which occupies the site of the sedilia. Most of the pieces are 13th and 14th century date and include a praying male figure with seaweed carved background. In the graveyard are a group of nine tombstones, two yards south of the porch. Late 16th century and early 17th century. Coped tapering limestone ashlar slabs supported on head and foot stones. The head ends are enriched with cherubs, fluting or scrolls. Low west tower, the very wide west window filled with inappropriate tracery in 1898. Even later some equally inappropraite tracrey was put in the opening to a former south chapel. The details of the arch are Decorated in style. Inside, the arcade to a former north aisle (the aisle was taken doen in 1809). Two bays, late 13th century. Quatrefoil piers with fillets and thin shafts in the diagonals. There are early 14th century Lombardic inscriptions on a northeast chancel quoin and a north window jamb. The octangonal font is Perpendicular in style. An extraordinary charnel-house of pieces in the chancel south wall. In the graveyard a good collection of late 17th and early 18th limestone headstones.{2}
