Full Description
PRN55295
Two distinct scatters of late Mesolithic - early Neolithic worked flints were recorded during fieldwalking around the Fiskerton causeway. Many of the diagnostic artefacts from these assemblages suggest a relatively high level of activity along the margins of the river during this period. These scatters are likely to result from sporadic, maybe seasonal, visits to temporary camps.
A thin spread of material of this period was also recovered across the floodplain to the south and south-west of Fiskerton village, including another, smaller, concentration south of the bungalows on St Clement's Drive. This may indicate that the foci of activity were not restricted to the river, or that the river during this period followed a course that flowed past this area. {1}
