PRN 36609
An archaeological fieldwalking survey was undertaken on the proposed quarry extension area at Castle Bytham. The fieldwalking produced 85 struck prehistoric flints although no discernable pattern could be distinguished within the flint distribution. Despite the comparatively small size of the assemblage, it was nevertheless of moderately high potential. The typological mix of the material is unusual, with scrapers, spurs, notches, spokeshaves and edge-rotouched implements being over-represented. Such pieces would normally be associated with a settlement site.{1}
