Full Description
PRN 63707
An archaeological watching brief and subsequent excavation along the route of the Silk Willoughby to Staythorpe gas pipeline indentified a small isolated pit. The pit contained three bags of fired clay of indeterminate date. Some of the pieces of fired clay have firing holes piercing their surface. It is likely that the material came from a kiln, taking the form of a kiln lining, support bars, plates or flooring. The feature suggest the presence of a kiln in the immediate vicinity (see PRN 63708).{1}{2}
